A large US gas company,Air Products & Chemicals, announced that as part of Neom it has been building a green hydrogen plant in Saudi Arabia for the past four years. The plant claims to be the world's largest green hydrogen project.

Experts say that green hydrogen could be an ideal power source for many industries. In Japan,a new green hydrogen plant opened near Fukushima—an intentionally symbolic location given the plant's proximity to the site of the 2011 nuclear disaster. It will be used to power fuel cells.

Europe is also investing in green hydrogen. The European Union drafted a strategy for large﹣scale green hydrogen expansion. \"Large﹣ scale deployment(部署)of clean hydrogen at a fast pace is key for the EU to achieve its high climate ambitions\",the European Commission wrote.

Green hydrogen is a promising zero﹣emission technology for aircraft. But Airbus recently

第5页(共36页)

released a statement saying that significant problems need to be overcome, including safely storing hydrogen on aircraft, the lack of a hydrogen facility at airports, and cost.

And on the ground, green hydrogen has been identified as an alternative to some road vehicles. In the UK,hydrogen trains, trucks and buses are welcomed.

There are even plans for smaller﹣scale hydrogen systems that can power individual homes. In Australia, the University of New South Wales has created a home﹣based system that uses solar energy to create and store green hydrogen, which is changed into electricity as needed.

第6页(共36页)

question, but scientists may have shed some more light on the answer in a recently released study. The new study published in April found that lightning may play a bigger role in global climate change than was previously known by the scientific community. \"Lightning increases the atmosphere's ability to cleanse itself,\" the researchers wrote in the study.

Many are familiar with the potentially deadly risks posed by lightning, which causes an average of 43 fatalities in the USA each year.Although the odds of being struck are quite low,you can't be too cautious when storms arise.Consequently, many in the weather community have long urged people to take proper measures to stay safe during storms, which can frequently trigger lightning, even without turning severe.

However, the researchers recently uncovered a surprising beneficial impact of lightning The Earth is struck by lightning nearly 20 million times each year, and lightning can travel as much as 10 to 12 miles from a thunderstorm, instantly heating the air to 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit

The study, was based on an airborne research flight conducted in 2012.The plane was used to examine the top portion of thunderstorm clouds.Researchers initially thought there was a problem with the equipment on the plane, untіl thеу rеalіzеd ѕріkеѕ(急升)thеу оbѕеrvеd cоrrеѕроndеd wіth lіghtnіng flaѕhеѕ.

Therefore, the study estimates that somewhere between 2% and 16% of the oxidizing,or cleaning that happens naturally in the atmosphere is done by lightning. The process helps reduce chemicals like carbon monoxide and methane in the atmosphere. These chemicals, known for being greenhouse gases, have been proven to contribute to rising temperatures associated with climate change.

Researchers say more studies will be conducted to confirm the degree to which lightning contributes to the fight against global climate change.

(1)What did the researchers find in the previous study concerning lightning? A.The function of lightning is a practically philosophical question. B.Lightning played a certain role in climate change.

C.There was something wrong with the equipment on the plane. D.Lightning had a positive influence on cleaner atmosphere.

第7页(共36页)

(2)Which may the weather community agree with? A.People are not aware of the possible risks caused by lightning. B.Storms can be frequently accompanied by lightning. C.The chances of being struck by lightning are not slim. D.There is no need to worry when storms arise.

(3)What's the author's attitude towards the effect of lightning? A.Subjective. B.Critical. C.Objective. D.Doubtful.

(4)What's the text mainly about? A.The shocking benefit of lightning. B.The function of lightning. C.The cause of lightning. D.The disadvantage of lightning.

14.(10分)Working long hours poses an occupational health risk killing hundreds of thousands of people each year, the World Health Organization says.

People working 55 or more hours each week face an estimated 35% higher risk of a stroke(中风)and a 17% higher risk of dying from heart disease, compared to people following the widely accepted standard of working 35 to 40 hours in a week, the WHO says in a study published Monday in the journal Environment International.

\"No job is worth the risk of stroke or heart disease,\" WHO Director﹣General Dr.Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, calling on governments, businesses and workers to find ways to protect workers' health.

In the past year, the COVID﹣19 pandemic forced national economies into crisis and changed how millions of people work. But its authors note that overwork has been on the rise for years due to phenomena such as the gig economy and telework—and they say the pandemic will likely accelerate those trends.

\"Teleworking has become the norm in many industries, often blurring(模糊)the boundaries between home and work,\" Ghebreyesus said. \"In addition, many businesses have

第8页(共36页)

been forced to scale back or shut down operations to save money, and people end up working longer hours.\"

The study found the highest health burdens from overwork in men and in workers who are middle﹣age or older.Regionally, people in Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific region had the most exposure to the risk.People in Europe had the lowest exposure.

Several steps could help ease the burden on workers, the study states, including governments adopting and enforcing labor standards on working time.

The authors also say employers should agree with their employees on a maximum number of working hours. In another step, the study suggests workers arrange to share hours so no one is working 55 or more hours in a week.

(1)How does the author develop the second paragraph? A.By listing data. B.By giving an example. C.By proposing a definition. D.By presenting an argument.

(2)What led to the worldwide economic crisis in 2020 according to the text? A.Stroke and heart disease. B.Shutdown of factories. C.A global outbreak. D.Gig economy and telework.

13.(10分)What is the purpose of lightning? That might sound like a deeply philosophical question, but scientists may have shed some more light on the answer in a recently released study. The new study published in April found that lightning may play a bigger role in global climate change than was previously known by the scientific community. \"Lightning increases the atmosphere's ability to cleanse itself,\" the researchers wrote in the study.

Many are familiar with the potentially deadly risks posed by lightning, which causes an

average of 43 fatalities in the USA each year.Although the odds of being struck are quite low,you can't be too cautious when storms arise.Consequently, many in the weather community have long urged people to take proper measures to stay safe during storms, which can frequently trigger lightning, even without turning severe.

(2)Which may the weather community agree with? A.People are not aware of the possible risks caused by lightning. B.Storms can be frequently accompanied by lightning. C.The chances of being struck by lightning are not slim. D.There is no need to worry when storms arise.

第23页(共36页)

people each year, the World Health Organization says.

\"In addition, many businesses have been forced to scale back or shut down operations to save money, and people end up working longer hours.\"

A A.By listing data. B.By giving an example. C.By proposing a definition. D.By presenting an argument.

On the third day,I caught Belinda fighting with Jose.I walked over to their table and

asked what the problem was. \"She keeps calling me a bad word,\" Jose said.Belinda wrote standards after school while I gave her another lecture on behavior. The next day,I caught her fighting with Jose again.I shouted angrily across the room to ask why they were fighting.Again,Jose accused Belinda of calling him a bad word.Belinda had finally earned a home visit.I told her that I would walk her home after school and talk to her mother in person. And for the first time all the week,Belinda became silent. For the rest of the day,she sat still in her chair, even with kids teasing her. \"It's not going to work, young lady,\" I told her. \"You already earned a walk home, and behaving now isn't going to change that.\"

When the final bell sounded,I took Belinda by the hand, and we began the two﹣block walk to her house.Belinda took me through the gate to her yard and she went inside to get her mother while I waited outside.

\"Where have you been,girl?\" a voice screamed.Babies cried loudly inside.

\"My teacher's here,\" Belinda said softly, and I still couldn't see inside through the front door.

\"Hello,\" a deep voice barked.Then the door opened,and a rather skinny,short woman walked out.

\"Uh,I'm Mr.Brassell,Belinda's teacher.\" \"What'd she done this time?\" 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
