摘要：In general, the invention is directed to channel occupancy techniques for multi-channel medical device communication. More specifically, techniques are described formaintaining a communication session between an external device and an implantablemedical device (IMD) to reduce the potential for conflict with other programmers. Adevice, such as an external device, includes a transmit module to transmit telemetrysignals to an implantable medical device over a communication channel, and a control unitthat communicates data to the implantable medical device via the transmit module. Thecontrol unit communicates idle messages over the communication channel during gapswithin the data communication to the implantable medical device.
